Wildwater’s beginner course introduces you to the techniques needed to begin the exciting sport of whitewater kayaking. Paddle strokes and boat maneuvering will be practiced on flat water.
In the beginner/intermediate course you’ll be given the opportunity to fine-tune basic paddling skills and to build confidence maneuvering in Class II whitewater. At the intermediate level you will move on to more advanced techniques needed to run bigger whitewater. Development of reliable braces and a whitewater roll may be practiced.
This course is tailored to the participant’s previous paddling experience as well as their ability to pick up and execute concepts.

See the source of the Gauley River from the comfort of a touring kayak. Summersville Lake offers miles of shoreline and hidden inlets to explore.
Kayak touring is great if you want to just take some time to unwind. Touring kayaks are stable and easy to paddle, which makes this trip great for all ages. Enjoy touring the cool blue waters and the cliffs that contain Summersville Lake.
During the heat of summer take a break for a refreshing swim or relax on the shaded shores while you enjoy lunch. Summersville Lake is only a short drive from the Wildwater base camp.
Our experienced instructor/guide will help you learn the fundamentals so you can enjoy this hidden jewel.

Rock climbing is one of the most challenging adventures that you can enjoy off the water. Wildwater’s course is designed to introduce the participant to the basic techniques of rock climbing and rappelling.
Participants learn about the equipment, knots, safety, and various techniques. The instructors set-up rope belay anchors for tailored climbs that challenge every individual.
All climbing instruction is conducted in the New River Gorge.
This course includes the instructor, all climbing equipment, and lunch.
