What To Wear

In the Spring and Fall, the well-dressed rafter will wear a wetsuit and splash jacket. Wetsuits and splash jackets are available for rent for $15 and $7, respectively. It is a good idea to wear a layer or two (depending on the weather) of synthetic fiber between your splash top and skin. Polypro or synthetic fleece do the trick quite well. If you are leery of too much bulk, you can use a few thin layers of synthetic fabrics as opposed to one bulky layer. Fleece hats or ballcaps are a great idea because they keep in much of the heat you would lose from your head, and they usually will fit under our helmets. For your feet, the most economical option is wool or fleece socks and old tennis shoes. If you want to go high tech, check out neoprene booties or neoprene lined river shoes. AVOID COTTON as it will draw heat from your body where synthetic fibers and wool will not.

During the warmer months, swimsuits, shorts and t-shirts are a good option, with old sneakers or sport sandals for your feet. For cool breezy days, a wind breaker is a good idea. Do not forget your ballcap, sunglasses (with a strap) and ABOVE ALL sunscreen. You’ll be on the water for 4-5 hours in the hot sun (most days anyway) and you don’t want to come away looking like a lobster!

Please check the local weather before you pack!
Special equipment must be worn in order to participate. The equipment does not fit all body shapes and sizes. Please call for clarification.
