We could tell you that the Upper Gauley River drops a whole bunch of feet in a short period of time and we could tell you that the Upper Gauley is ranked in the top 10 for commercially run rivers in the WORLD (alright, we just told you), but you have got to experience this amazing stretch of West Virginia whitewater to fully appreciate it. Start your trip on the Upper Gauley at the base of Summersville Dam, eat a hot lunch where you can watch other rafters at Sweet’s Falls and take out river left at your private Wood’s Ferry take out. You need to be on this world-class stretch of whitewater when the Army Corps of Engineers opens Summersville Dam in September and October!

Upper Gauley River

The Upper Gauley River is the pinnacle of whitewater rafting in the United States. You and your friends challenge the best whitewater rafting West Virginia has to offer.
The Upper Gauley boasts the BIG 5 whitewater rapids: Insignificant, Pillow Rock, Lost Paddle, Iron Ring and Sweet’s Falls. Sprinkle in a generous serving of Class III and IV whitewater rapids such as Iron Curtain, Shipwreck and Wood’s Ferry and you will get all the West Virginia whitewater you can handle! The challenge is on you and your team to pay attention, react quickly and paddle hard on America's best whitewater.
On the Upper Gauley River, it is up to you and your team to make the fun happen, working hard and playing hard all at the same time.

For those of you looking for the ultimate Gauley rafting experience (and you know who you are!), look no further than the High-Adventure option on all Gauley River trips. The smaller rafts and smaller guest-to-guide ratio will show you the Gauley in a whole new light.
Just ask your friendly reservation expert about this option and they’ll get you squared away when you are making your rafting reservation. We require at least 3 guests per boat on this trip. If there are only two of you, you may pay for the third slot to get that 2:1 guest to guide ratio.
Of course, you’ll have to paddle extra hard as well!

You never know what the Gauley River is going to dish out, but you can be sure that no run is the same. Tune in to the nuances of the Gauley River that you normally wouldn’t notice on a single run. Sometimes the Upper Gauley gets the upper hand on the first trip and you get a chance to go back and get another crack at the Big 5 of the Upper Gauley: Insignificant, Pillow Rock, Lost Paddle, Iron Ring and Sweet’s Falls.
