New River Gorge Bridge Walk
The adventurous at heart will want to experience Bridge Walk, a catwalk tour under the New River Gorge Bridge. The tour offers views of the exquisite panorama from the bridge, a welcome sight whether you are visiting for the first time or regularly rock climb in the gorge and raft down the torrent of West Virginia's rivers. Opened in spring 2010, the tour allows visitors to walk 850 feet above the New River on a 30-inch wide piece of steel. The catwalk lies 30 feet below the bridge's roadway and reaches 3,030 feet across the canyon and under the entire bridge. Visitors will view the engineering feat accomplished in the steel structure and underpinning of the New River Gorge Bridge. This tour is the only one of its kind in the United States. All walkers will be tethered to the bridge by a body harness connected to a cable above the catwalk for added safety. The tour runs year round, affording opportunities to view the blazing reds, oranges and yellows of West Virginia fall foliage or the lush green canopy of the forest in summertime. -Walkers protected from the elements -Every walker will be outfitted with a body harness connected to a cable above the catwalk. It will allow you to walk freely but still be protected from falling -Must be able to walk 2 miles with a considerable amount of standing -Any group size over 6 people can be accommodated for this half-day activity
